In this Beginning Guitar 101 video I want to explain a little about a concept I deal with a lot in future videos of common chord patterns and specifically chord families. Now, common chord patterns are short little phrases of chords. You see three or four chords that are commonly used in popular music. Taking the keys of C, F, Bb, and Eb, practice playing all of the inversions of the major triad. Play the following triads for two beats each. 2. Now on 4, 3, 2, run through the major triads in four more keys. Play the following triads alternating between four and two beats each. Have no fear, we'll get to some examples shortly. We'll be differentiating 3 triads: Major triad (major chords) with scale degrees 1 3 5. Minor triad (minor chords) with scale degrees 1 b3 5. Diminished triads (diminished chords) with scale degrees 1 b3 b5. Now let's calculate the quality of each chord in the key of C.
